Meet new people on the road, fall into troubles and find a way to survive. However, you'll not be alone in your journey. Meet new companions that may want to join your group. Yet remember, who you should trust, and who should be avoided.
English version
Unfortunetelly, English version of the mod is yet to be developped. There are some components which are already translated, but those are mostly technical stuff. However, we do our best to provide full English version of the project. One of the NPCs is currently being translated. Hopefully, the new version will be out soon.
Technical changes
In Mysteries of the Sword Coast we try to provide some technical changes that will provide some fresh air in quite old BG1. Here are the examples:
- Experience for learning spells, disarming traps and un-locking locks
- Better AI of some creatures
- Possibility for your characters (both original BioWare and TWM only) to interact with the enviroment
- Greater impact of your character, attributes and even gender
- Unique random encounters while moving between the locations
- Experience for learning spells, disarming traps and un-locking locks
- Better AI of some creatures
- Possibility for your characters (both original BioWare and TWM only) to interact with the enviroment
- Greater impact of your character, attributes and even gender
- Unique random encounters while moving between the locations
Components available in current English version
-Technical component PRE
No changes will be seen by the player. It is used by other components.
1/ ~Necessary extensions of IDS files~ New triggers and actions.
2/ ~Rest detection system~ used in scripting and dialogues, for example in component EXP for spells.
3/ ~Combat detection system - emulation of CombatCounter() from BG2~ needed in scripting connected with banters etc.
-Winthrop's Gift
Winthrop gives CHARNAME a gift with special abilities.
-Bard's songs
Adds new spells for bard (as an innate abilities) to the game, like in IWD2 (bards in 3rd edition of D&D may sing different songs).
-Variety of Items
Items of high quality like those from IWD2. 27 new items in many different places.
12 new containers (like Bag of holding, Gem bags etc.).
Like in BG2, IWD-HoW and IWD2, containers are very useful items that provides the player something to store high numbers of items that would normally would be impossible. Containers in BG1 are a little bit different from those in BG2 because of engine differences:
a/ containers have the interface of a shop (with buy and sell buttons)
b/ "unsellable" items cannot be put in the container.
c/ You cannot see how many of the same items are in the container. You must remove them individually, which may be annoying when it is group of items (like arrows or many of the same potions).
d/ The game engine does not see items within the container as being in possession of the party.
e/ Before selling items in shop we must take them out from the container.
Some players may not like this part of the mod, but it is still a core part. If someone does not want to use the new items, he may simply leave it somewhere. I have eliminated earning money by using containers (party might earn or loss money by using "bags of holding" from DSotSC.).
-Improved bears
Bears have: damage 2x, damage resistance: slashing - 50, bludgeon - 75, piercing - 25, missiles - 50, polar bears have 50% cold/magic cold resistance, URSA has strength 19.
-Rules for leveling to 50 lvl
Level 50 rules for Baldur's Gate (and BG: Tales of the Sword Coast)
By: James Schumacher
This .zip file contains modified rules files (.2da files) that go into your Override folder in order to achieve Level 50 Rules. If you want to know how this was accomplished, you can go to http://www8.50megs.com/jbschumacher and download the tutorial on how to make your own rules for Baldur's Gate.
This works with both Tales of the Sword Coast, and Baldur's Gate without TOTSC.
Hope you enjoy your new expansion onto BG.(Also will upgrade DSOTSC to Level 50 rules instead of level 40 rules!)

-Maximum HP per level for BG1
Characters will gain maximum HP per level. It is possible with D&D 2 rules. It was optional in other D&D games so I do not see it as a cheat.
-Silence "You must gather party..."
You no longer have to hear this annoying voice!
-Gender differences
Differences between genders as in game "Arcanum":
Females: -2 strength, +1 constitution, +1 charisma
Males: no change
Visible only after new female character creation on start of game.
-Banter Acceleration for BG1
Time between banters will be shortened. However, there is still a very small number of original banters in BG1.
-Stacking of items for BG1 without NTotSC
Stacking of stones, wolf skins and skulls (to 5 items), rings (to 20 items) and amulets (to 10 items).
Items already stackable (arrows, bolts, potions etc.) will be multiplied (x2).
This component will be skipped if DSotSC or NTotSC are installed.
-Various changes
Some little changes. They are too small to create a new components for.
1. *NPC AI individualization* - Kagain likes to kill squirrels for fun, Minsc attacs gnolls (racial enemy) without order.
-Experience for traps and locks v3.5
This component makes thieves and party gain experience for disarming traps and for lockpicking. It works with every version of BG1 (with or without mods). It appeals to players to really disarm traps and not 'disarm' them with warriors.
When a trap is disarmed or a lock is picked, the thief will be gain 2/3 of the experience. 1/3 will be divided between the rest of the party. This component will help to 'train' thieves, and they will reach next the level faster.
When installed as the last mod, experience will also be gained for traps from modifications.
-Experience for learning new spells v2.0
Adding new spells to a spell book will provide experience to the character who has learned it (not the whole party as in BG2. Experience will be gained only by the particular mage or bard.)
THE MOST COMMON PROBLEM!!! If your character does not get the experience, take off his/her armor before resting!
Changes in version 2.0:
1/ Better compatibility - there should not be any bugs if this mod is not the last one installed.
2/ Fixed bug where extra experience was gained when a NPC was kicked out and then joined again.
Technical information (forced by BG1's engine):
1/ If character had been exported and then imported to a new game, he/she will gain experience for all spells that are already in the spell book.
2/ Experience will be gained by the character after resting. Bards and multiclass mages must remove their armor if you want to gain XP for learning spells.
3/ Game creates list of known and unknown spells If NPC was kicked out and then another NPC replaced this character, the new one will use THE SAME list of known/unknown spells. Experience will be gained by original/NTotSC/MotSC NPC's.
-For hardcore players: alternate character experience's table
New table of experience/level (NPCLEVEL.2DA) that adds better rules of leveling for characters of 15 and higher level. Players will level slower when the character reaches 15 lvl. Now it will be harder to become a 'god' by playing one character many times.
-For hardcore players: less hack & slash in BG1
Spawn points won't work every time you walk by and return to it. You need to exit area. It also makes irritating creatures (like kobolds in Firewine) not spawn so frequently.
Limited spawning in cave of wyverns (ar4501) and cave of flesh golems (ar3601). When you rest there frequently, rats will appear instead of the normal creatures.
-For hardcore players: less experience for killing creatures
Players will gain only 50%, 25% or 10% of experience for killing creatures. It will be harder to train by killing.
-Small GUI modification for BG1 640x480
Minor BG1 interface beautification for standard resolution 640x480 by Lava Del'Vortel.
Component will be skipped if Widescreen mod is installed.
-Better GUI for BG1 with WideScreen Mod in higher resolutions
BG1 interface improvement when playing game in high resolutions mode (thanks to
WideScreen Mod) by Zed Nocear.
This component needs installed WideScreen Mod and offers 6 different resolution options:
a/ 800x480 - for palmtops and smartphones (BG1 via GemRB)
b/ 800x600 - for oldschool BG1 fans ;)
c/ 1024x600 - for netbook screens
d/ 1024x768 - for standard monitors 4:3 (CRT)
e/ 1280x768 - for panoramic monitors LCD 16:9
f/ 1280x800 - for panoramic monitors LCD 16:10
Coponent does not work with other resolutions. Picking resolution option different from installed by WideScreen May harm the game. (BG1 won't probably even start.)
-Lower or no limits in wearing items that gives +AC
There is no such a rule that players can't wear many items that gives +AC at the same time. Rules say that only the biggest bonus should work. It is impossible on BG1 engine. In this part you may choose to install lower limits (any armor and one amulet/ring/cloak that gives +AC) or no limits.
No changes will be seen by the player. It is used by other components.
